Meetings that were held during the 2011—2012 academic year for prospective majors and other interested students are given below in reverse chronological order.

Tuesday, April 17, 5:30 p.m.

Political Science. Informational meeting, including a presentation of the ins and outs of the major in Political Science. Consult our list of FAQs, and bring your own questions to the meeting. Linsly-Chittenden Hall, 63 High Street, room 317.

Wednesday, February 8, 12:25 p.m.

Environmental Studies. Informational pizza lunch with John Wargo, chair, and Paul Sabin, DUS, to discuss the Environmental Studies major application, which is due by Friday, February 24. A group of senior majors in the program will speak briefly about their experiences and research. William L. Harkness Hall, 100 Wall Street, room 119.

Thursday, December 1, 6 p.m.

Cognitive Science. Informational meeting about Cognitive Science. A description of the major and the application process will be presented, and faculty and current majors will be available to answer questions and offer their perspectives on the field. Kirtland Hall, room 207.

Tuesday, November 29, 3:30–5 p.m.

Linguistics. An informal meeting for students to ask questions, meet other students with similar interests, and talk about Linguistics as a major. General discussion, research opportunities, and the Linguistics major. 370 Temple Street, 2nd floor, Linguistics Seminar room.

Tuesday, November 15, 4 p.m.

Spanish. Come to an informal get-together at the department of Spanish andPortuguese. Meet the faculty and learn about course offerings in literature, advanced language courses, and opportunities for study abroad. Refreshments will be served. Romance Languages Lounge, 82–90 Wall Street, 3rd floor.

History. An information session about the major in History, including courses, distribution, and the senior essay, will be held in HGS 211.

Friday, November 11, 3 p.m.

Italian. An informal meeting for students interested in Italian to meet faculty and learn about course offerings in Italian literature, as well as advanced language courses. Discussion of study abroad opportunities. Romance Languages Lounge, 82–90 Wall Street, 3rd floor.

Friday, November 11, noon

Environmental Studies. Join us with your lunch for an information session about theEnvironmental Studies major. This year’s deadlines for the required major application are 5 p.m. on December 21, 2011 (fall), and 5 p.m. on February 24, 2012 (spring). The DUS recommends applying by the December deadline to allow more time for planning courses, concentrations, internships, and senior essay. Thompson Room (adjacent to the dining hall), Timothy Dwight College.

Thursday, November 3, 4–5:30 p.m.

African American Studies. All interested sophomores are invited to an information session about the major in African American Studies. Pizza and soft drinks will be served. Fellows’ Lounge, Calhoun College.

Wednesday, November 2, 3:30 p.m.

Global Affairs. A third information session for students interested in the new major inGlobal Affairs and who may have missed the earlier sessions is being offered. All are welcome. 77 Prospect Street, room A002.

Wednesday, October 26, 4 p.m.

History of Science, History of Medicine. Please join the History of Science and Medicine faculty and students at an informal meeting about the History of Science, History of Medicine major. Refreshments served. Refreshments will be served.Hall of Graduate Studies, 320 York Street, room 401.

Tuesday, October 25, 5:30 p.m.

Art. Discussion of the major, required courses, and sophomore reviews. Feel free to contact the DUS, Clint Jukkala, with any questions you may have beforehand. Green Hall, 1156 Chapel Street, room G02.

Tuesday, October 25, 4–5 p.m.

Film Studies. Interested in making, studying, discussing, analyzing, watching, andresearching the movies? Come to an information session about the Film Studiesmajor. Monday, October 24, 3:25 p.m.

Architecture. Come to a catered reception, pin-up of work done by members of the major, and a tour of Rudolph Hall and its facilities (including those available toArchitecture majors). Faculty members, including Dean Stern, and current Architecture majors will be at the reception to answer questions about the major. The reception begins at 4 p.m. For the tour, meet in the first-floor lobby of Loria, 190 York Street. Feel free to direct questions to Dan Whitcombe.

Tuesday, Otober 18, 5:30–7 p.m.

Global Affairs dinner. The Sophomore Class Council has arranged a dinner with Susan Hyde, the DUS of Global Affairs. You can get your dinner in the dining hall and bring it with you. Professor Hyde will talk about the major, hold a question-and-answer session, and leave time for sophomores to mingle with upperclassmen in the major. If you are interested in attending, please sign up, as spots are limited. Attendance will be capped at 25. Calhoun College Fellows’ Lounge, entryway D.

Monday, October 17, 8 p.m.

English. Please join us for an informal meeting about the English major at which all students are welcome. Faculty and students in the department will discuss courses and requirements, the writing concentration, and the value of an education in literature for life after Yale. There will be plenty of time for questions. Pizza will be served. Linsly-Chittenden Hall, room 101.

Thursday, October 14, 4 p.m.

History of Art. Come to an information session with History of Art majors and faculty. The major also has a project site on Classes*v2, with deadlines and other pertinent information. Monday, October 10, 4–5 p.m.

Religious Studies. Welcome party for current majors and information session for prospective ones. Faculty and students will be available to answer questions. Snacks served. 451 College Street, room B-04.

Monday, October 10, 4 p.m.

Chinese, Japanese, and East Asian Studies. Informational meeting with the DUSes of East Asian Languages and Literatures and of East Asian Studies. Thursday, September 22, 5 p.m.

Public Health. Students considering a career in public health are invited to an informational meeting about the five-year B.A.-B.S./M.P.H program, including its academic program, areas of concentration, and admissions process. Linsly-Chittenden Hall, room 317.

Applied Physics. The major in Applied Physics is designed for students interested in learning more about such fields as nanoscience, solar energy, electronic materials, and optical communication. Students take three electives in their area of specialization and do a senior research project in that area. The major is rigorous preparation for graduate study in physics, engineering, and related disciplines. To learn more, e-mail the DUS, Victor Henrich, to arrange a meeting.
