Mellon Mays and Edward A. Bouchet Fellowship Application Deadline

The Mellon Mays Fellowship Program is a project of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s Higher Learning Program.  The Fellowship supports students in the humanities work on paid research projects during the academic year and to pursue full-time research during the summers between sophomore and junior years and between junior and senior years. The program also provides some assistance with student loans.

The Edward A. Bouchet Fellowship Program is named in honor of Yale’s first African-American graduate and the first African-American in the United States to earn a Ph.D. This program enables students to work on paid research projects during the academic year and to pursue full-time research during the summers between sophomore and junior years and between junior and senior years.

  • Both fellowships are for rising juniors.
  • Candidates may apply without regard to nationality or citizenship status.
  • The Mellon Mays/Bouchet programs are not designed for students pursuing professional training for careers in the practice of law, business administration, clinical medicine, or the allied health professions.
