Spring Online Placement Exams in Some Languages and Math

Some departments and programs are offering spring online placement exams ahead of Preference Selection and registration for the fall 2023 semester:

• American Sign Language
• Chinese
• French
• German
• Hebrew
• Italian
• Japanese
• Korean
• Mathematics
• Portuguese
• Spanish

1. Only some students may need to take a placement exam this spring (mainly students with prior knowledge of a subject but who did not take a placement exam in that subject or receive a departmental placement within the past year).
2. Students wishing to study a language and who do not have prior knowledge of that language enroll directly in L1; no placement exam is required.
3. Some language programs request that students who took a summer 2022 placement exam but did not enroll in that language in AY 2022-203 retake the placement exam for proper placement in fall 2023 courses. If that is your situation and you’re unsure whether or not you need to take a spring 2023 language placement exam, please email the contact person listed on the Placement Exams and Information webpage.
4. Students with documented disabilities may request accommodations for placement testing through the Student Accessibility Services office. Please contact the SAS office through the online registration form to submit your request at least one week before your placement test.
